Clay dates!

This summer has flown by and felt so busy. Wrapping up projects, trying to keep up with the garden (so many tomatoes!), and finding moments to just get to read in the sun. But on top of all of that, I’ve been dipping my toes back into the world of pottery! I’ve taken a few classes over the years, usually gravitating towards throwing very wonky little bowls on a pottery wheel.

But a new pottery studio opened up in the neighborhood last year, one that I’ve been mulling over joining. I want to do something a little more self-guided than the classes I normally sign up for. I finally put my name on their waitlist, and in the meantime, took a couple of workshops with friends!

One was a hand-building class to make dice towers, which was so much fun. My usual D&D group ended up being the only people in the class and we ended up with four gorgeous dice towers.

I went with an approach of “how much glaze can I paint on this thing?” and I really like the mottled results. Jonathan’s dice tower is looking much more restrained in the background!

All four sides of my dice tower. Is the little triple spiral on the back of the tower my favorite part? Perhaps.

The other class was a two day workshop, making porcelain jewelry and learning how to apply luster decals. I have never used decals before and it was really fun to use something that changes the look and feel of the pieces so quickly. The long blue earrings are my absolute favorites. Now I just need somewhere to wear them!
