Cookbook Project: All finished!

These are my last three cookbooks which means this project is officially complete! I feel a little bit like I cheated at the end since there’s no way I’ll get rid of any of the following books, but it still counts to me..

#1. The Elements of Pizza

Of course a pizza-focused cookbook has a safe place on my shelves! This felt a little like cheating because I already have a dough recipe that I love, so I am mostly using this for topping inspiration…

Pesto and burrata - really not a combination I’m going to complain about! This photo was taken prior to a few minutes under the broiler. The pizza didn’t last long enough post-broiler for a final photo, whoops.

#2. The Great Book of Yorkshire Pudding

Another book that is staying safely on the shelf. Jonathan introduced me to the world of Yorkshire puddings and I have to say that I love them. We usually make a batch and then fill them with whatever bits and bobs are floating around in our fridge, so I tried a recipe this time that involves adding cooked apples to the batter before baking it.

Cooking apple slices in a little bit of butter and sugar first…

Cooked apples and batter, ready for assembly.

Yorkshire puddings come together too quickly for me to document, so I only have the end result which really don’t have the distinctive Yorkshire pudding pocket. These were good with ice cream on top but I think I’d just make the filling separately next time instead of trying to cook it within the batter.

#3. Recipes for Kate

There’s no way I was getting rid of this book within this project; there’s no way I am ever doing anything but treasuring this book forever.

My friend Carrie made this for me as a wedding gift and collected so many amazing recipes from my family and friends in it. It’s one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received and it was the obvious choice to end this project on.

Final thoughts…

So what happens now? I feel confident that I can pare down the cookbook collection at least a little bit. And I feel like I discovered some gems in the cookbooks I plan to keep, especially ones that I’ve had for a while now. All in all, this was a good little goal that I set myself - an excuse to peruse my cookbooks and a way to get myself out of cooking ruts whenever I find myself in them!
