Iceland, Pt. 1
Did I go on a whirlwind trip around Ireland and Northern Ireland, go home and self-isolate for 10 days just to be safe, then turn around and fly right back to Europe for a whirlwind trip around Iceland? Yes. Yes, I did.
Two amazing trips, planned independently and then both postponed due to the pandemic, ended up happening in the same month for me! It’s not how I would normally go about things, but when these started aligning the way they did, I just went for it and I’m not mad about how the month of May turned out as a result!
I landed in Reykjavik and met up with one of my oldest friends for a week in Iceland, exploring some of the western parts of the country. I’ve been to Iceland once before and loved it so much, so I was excited both to go back and to see a new part of the island that I didn’t get to last time.
Just like Ireland, I packed my watercolors and a sketchbook and high hopes for doing some paintings while there. And just like Ireland, I instead opted for going to bed early almost every night instead! So I relied heavily on my phone camera instead.
I have all kinds of ideas and inspiration after this trip and I cannot wait to spend some time working on them now I’m done with these big trips, but there was one thing I couldn’t resist painting almost as soon as I got home: all the gorgeous lupine that was blooming everywhere in Iceland while we were there!
