A whirlwind museum tour

I just got back from 9 days in Toronto and Columbus. The reason for this trip was to attend two fantastic weddings which were both absolutely amazing. On top of that, we also squeezed in a lot of fall foliage (the weddings both ended up being at the perfect time for leaf peeping in both places!) and a LOT of museum outings. I saw so much wonderful art that this blog post is really just a way of me documenting it for myself before I forget anything!

Textile Museum of Canada

This was right around the corner from our hotel in Toronto and I was so excited to visit!

Toronto had a lot of wonderful public art, like these gorgeous pieces by Anna Pauliina Rikkinen.

Art Gallery of Ontario

I spent a couple of hours here without really planning ahead for it. I sort of love going to art museums without knowing what to expect. What I got: a gorgeous building with a Frank Gehry-designed wing, a surprise Yayoi Kusama room, and a lot of artists that I hadn’t heard of before to look up after my visit!

Franklin Park Conservatory

While we were in Columbus, we went to the conservatory. They were open in the evening with a bunch of Halloween programing that was so much fun to see! But the real treat of going after dark was seeing all kind of Dale Chihuly pieces in dramatic lighting among the plants.

Last but not least, we stayed in German Village in Columbus and it turns out the neighborhood really goes all out with Halloween decorating, right down to the fairy doors!

A bright red fairy door on a stoop, with a small white picket fence and a stack of tiny jack-o-lanterns.
