Cookbook Project: Recipe 0

I love cookbooks so much. I love sitting down and reading them, I love looking over the food photography, I love using them as design inspiration.

As a result, I own a LOT of cookbooks. Which I also love, but I have a habit of making a handful of recipes from each book and ignoring everything else. I’ve had some of these books for a couple of years and only made a single recipe from them.

So I decided to set myself a goal this year and cook a new recipe from every cookbook I own in 2021.

I’m kicking off my project with the newest addition to my library! My friend Carrie sent me a copy of Whole Food Cooking Every Day which I am so excited to use (thank you, Carrie!!).

The first recipe that I immediately wanted to make was a roasted apple-almond cake with cardamom. Carrie also confirmed that this was a delicious one to start with, which is really all I needed to hear. A handful of roasted apple slices and chopped almonds later, I had my cake ready to go in the oven.

The verdict: I LOVE this cake. The cardamom blends with the apples so nicely and makes this such a delicious, comforting dessert (and probably breakfast tomorrow).

Truth be told, I feel like I am starting this project off with a bit of a copout. I haven’t actually made anything from this book before and this cake with two of my favorite flavors, apple and cardamom, is pretty clearly destined to be my go-to recipe from it. So I think this book will pop up again in this project later in the year! There’s a cauliflower bake with lentils and tomato that’s calling my name…
